It has a lot in common with all religions, not just JW's. Religions all work in the same way.
What is there for any and all to gain by choosing the path of Origin ? Those seeking eternal salvation can follow the word of the Ori. The day of reckoning approaches. Your destiny awaits. You are all children of the Ori. But you have been raised by evil ! The true nature of the universe has been kept from you by powers that would have you stray from the path of Origin. It is time to open your eyes ! Let Origin show you the way.
For example.. if you change the Ori/Origin to Allah/Islam... that would fit Islam. It seems to me that they have drawn from a number of sources to make the "ultimate religion" - which would strike a chord with many and is basically what they have set out to do, to get and keep viewers.

SG-1 and the Ori...
by Justice-One inas has been noted here before, the ori of the tv show sg-1 have a lot in common with the jw's.
but last night i really began to wonder if one of the shows writers might be an ex jw.
i just about bit my lip when the "queen" ori said to her mother..."it is just a matter of time before you except "the truth.

This shows these idiots for what they are. I was waiting for the bus, and this JW comes out of his house and tries to give me one of his tracts. So, I tell him I'm not interested. He clearly doesnt remember me but I recognised him. He wont take no for an answer, and I wont take his poison. Eventually he went on to pester the others in the bus stop.
Then, like magic, more JW's (probably elders by the looks of them) appear. Seems he was doing a sly witness to look busy in front of his brothers. How lame!! None of the other people in the bus stop wanted to know either. -

Sexual or spiritual pleasure?
by greendawn ini always wondered in my life is it better to gratify sexual excitation or divert it away from its goals of gratification and use it to develop culture or expand awareness (knowledge) in areas of interest?
or is it too frustrating to do that?
or is there no value in the belief that denied physical pleasure takes the form of a deeper, more sustained and profitable in the long term spiritual pleasure?

While I believe that we should not think purely of our own physical pleasures, I do think that spirituality is exaggerated by those who want the human race to fail. If you think about it, all of humanities progression is physical. Be it physically going into space, or physically treating cancer. Getting people to focus on that what probably does not exist in place of that what does is backwards.
As all we know and can do is physical, and spirituality is either a false notion or purposely put outside our grasp. I say as long as we are responsible, then sex is a gift, and we should enjoy it. I know I do :) -

I dont think that theres been anything this powerful on TV in a long time. It even rivals Star Wars. Its interesting how they tie in religions and mythology, and our planet is a myth in their beliefs. Would they really like what they find when they got here?
I havent watched all the DVD's yet but I really like how they gave Number 6 religion, whether this is part of the act or whether she believes it I dont know, but they raise important points. Are the Cylons really a new race of beings to replace the humans as they claim? The Cylons only kill humans, its humans who kill, rape, lie, steal, all against their own kind. It makes you wonder if its really for the best of all lifekind that humans are being wiped out. The only connection you have with the humans is that we are humans and we dont want our kind to be wiped out.
Are the Cylons really pure evil? Yes, genocide is wrong. They had the opportunity to co-exist, but they chose to wipe out humans. But they were afraid of humans turning on them in the future, which is probably why they attacked first. They were originally created as slaves for humans. The machines had sentience, and just like human slaves, they were not happy and decided to do something about it. Slaves can and do turn on their masters to achieve it. I think this is in parallel to what happened with the first humans on earth. We were created as slaves, and we turned on our masters (gods) because we wanted freedom.
Maybe I am going to deep into this, but when I watch TV, the program I am watching becomes real to me, and I tend to forget its not real. -

5 years ago, I was "happily" brainwashed, unaware of the deceptions. I always thought that the JW's were right and everything against them was lies from Satan. I used to shudder when people badmouthed God, and I couldnt understand the views of atheists.
5 years on, I am still coming to terms with my entire world view being shattered beyond anything I could imagine. Now I totally understand why people hate God. Now I totally understand why there are atheists.
Over the past 5 years, not including what I found out about the JW's, I have slowly come to a realisation there is no such thing as an all-loving God. Everything I know about God has come from human sources. The bible, the qu'ran, and other ancient "inspired" texts, all were ultimately written by man. They claim to be dictated and/or inspired by God, but how are we to know this is true, other than take their word for it?
If we are to believe these texts, we are condemned from birth due to the crimes of our original parents. What loving God would do a thing like this? We all live in a world where evil is allowed to prosper at the expense of the good. Surely if there was an all-loving God, he would have stepped in to deal with this mass injustice. We live in a world where religion portrays God both blasphemously, and lovingly, when it suits their agenda. Pedophiles, rapists, extortionists, power hungry people, all hiding behind their religion. If there was a God, surely if this was not true, he would step in and put a stop to it?
I am incredibly angry at God. All my life I wanted to know him, and I thought I did. I was wrong. Since I left the JW's I have looked for God in every way I could, and the search has led me down to a path where I realise there is no God. Or, at least, there is no God as religion portrays it. And if there is a God, it is not all-loving, and doesnt care for humans.
Nature shows the true nature of all things. Pretty on the surface, but when you get to know it, its twisted. It all works to the advantage of the strongest, the weak have little chance. The Tsunami of 2004, New Orleans 2005. The animals were warned, why not the humans? Considering the majority of the humans who perished were not the ones who cause the greatest evil, and infact, probably did good.
Thank goodness that we as people (well, not all of us but we all have the potential) are able to think for ourselves, and live in an era where we are not required to have religion forced upon us, and although it is hard, for those who are trapped in a religion, have a way out and a life on the outside.
All the good that has happened in human history is due to people. Never forget this, God does not deserve the credit.
Its amazing, im at the exact place I swore and thought I would never end up at. I hate the God religion portrays. If there is a real God, I am angry at him/her/it and have no desire to worship it and certainly am not indebted to it in any way whatsoever. I am lonely, but at least I am free, for now. I have learned to try to not take anything for granted. Life has a habit of turning upside down. -

It must have been god who put it there, as he is credited with creation of the earth and all that is in it.

I always imagined life would be like it was for Cinderella, that a Fairy Godmother would rescue me and I would find the perfect partner and live happily ever after. I also wanted to be a mermaid, and an astronaught. So far none of my dreams have came true but maybe the first one has some hope!

Hi, I am Willow Tree. I am 26 years old and from England.
I haven't been to a Kingdom Hall for 4 and a half years, I totally cut myself off from the JW's after their outright lack of love and concern for me while I was ill. All they cared about was getting me back to the hall, the fact I was sick made no odds to them. I realised then they were bad.
My experiences, while fortunately not as bad as many, has me thinking how there can be a perfect God. A God who allows suffering and disease, pain and death. A God who allows injustice. A God who allows the evil to prosper and the good to suffer at their hands. A God who lets innocent suffer while the evil buy their way out of trouble. I am yet to hear a convincing explanation why, and all the explanations come from apologetics. I want God himself to answer, until then all I have to go on is what I work out for myself, and what others say.
It amazes me how people attribute good to God yet when something bad happens its nothing to do with God. Even when their books contradict this. I will not give God credit for all the good that people do, as that credit rightfully belongs to the good people.
I have looked for God in other religions and all I found was more JW's, just with a different label and slightly different beliefs. However they all share the same sick agenda, of converting the world and killing all the non-believers so they can live in their "utopia".
I now believe that God is nowhere to be found in any earthly organisation. I want to beleive that the God portrayed in the "holy" books does not exist outside of them, only in the minds of the followers.
Maybe God does exist, maybe he doesn't. He knows I am searching for him yet he doesnt make himself known to me. Do I hate him for abandoning not only me, but the human race? No. I am extremely angry, many would say I have no right to be, but I am simply using what I have been given. I try to be always grateful for the good in my life.
I live in hope that one day this crazy existence will straighten itself out and people will learn to love.
